Day 58: Wednesday, July 28th, 2021

I am learning on this journey to go with the flow and leave room for space not planned…also for when I am not feeling very well, weather conditions, wildfires, oh, and yes, a Pandemic that is still happening. I am fully vaccinated and happy to help my fellow man in this simple kindness. I have heard whispers we may shut down again, and that would be the only thing that would send me home. Not much point to being on the road and doing things if nothing will be open. So, we watch, we wait, and we hope more and more make better choices in all of this.

In the meantime, I don’t mind this area. But I HATE the traffic, I think it may actually be worse than Orlando, and I didn’t think that was possible. I almost didn’t do anything today because of my high stress levels of driving in and out of Bellevue. GPS can only do so much, but the ramps and exits around here are in multiples, so when you exit, it may be for three choices, instead of the normal one. There has been a lot of swearing in my vehicle the last 2 days, and more praying as well. I can’t relax when I’m so worried about which turn to take, and that makes driving ANYWHERE uncomfortable and unfun. So, with that being said, I DID get out to Mount Rainier National Park today, but tomorrow will be a REST day- there will be still be a blog post tomorrow, but my butt will be chilling out all day.

So, Mount Rainier, wow. Let’s start with the simple. I have never been here before, brand spanking new for me. With that, I had no idea how to “enter” the Park, meaning what entrance works best.  I belong to SO many National Park sites online, trying to follow the news on many of them, but unfortunately I didn’t follow this one very closely.  I did check to see that they put a mask mandate back on today inside any Federal building at the Park. Yes, effective today, kicker is that all Visitor Centers at Mt Rainier are all closed anyways, soooo didn’t really make much sense, but there you go. I just put in the National Park in my GPS and pick the closest entrance, which to Bellevue/Seattle was the Sunrise Road. Sounded pretty, so I checked in at the Ranger Station, got the map, flashed my “America the Beautiful” Annual Pass and I was in. Yes, it reminded me of the Disney Auto Plazas…I must be missing Disney. I saw the 50th commercial yesterday, and yes, many have asked “How could you be missing it Amy?” Here’s how, I was there for the 40th and many of the other past ones. It doesn’t just happen THAT day, they run it for about a year or longer. With Covid still being a thing, I don’t know how much they will actually HAVE for it. Florida, and that County, has had a huge spike, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they dial it back for the Celebration. I will be there at the end of January for 2 weeks to enjoy the Disney magic and another rest before I go up the East Coast, so I know I will see it in due time. The “DAY” which is October 1st, the actual birthday, is cool to be a part of- but it is crowded, the special edition pins go fast which means you get to stand in a line for hours, the shirts go just as fast unless it’s like Epcot’s and they have tons left (Yall know what I am talking about) and it’s usually a speech in front of the Castle at Magic Kingdom and then everyone goes on with their day until the nighttime show- God willing they have it.  Listen, I hope it’s amazing, but it’s not enough for me to fly back for, I have my own amazing dream I am fulfilling that VERY next day after that….so no worries loves, I will be ok, Disney isn’t going anywhere.

Back to Mt. Rainier…I took the Sunrise Road all the way to the top,  turnouts here and there for you to stop and take pictures and breathe in the view. The very best one is at 6100 feet at Sunrise Lookout, it’s a panoramic view that just has no words…I posted videos of it on the Business Facebook page. 300 more feet up to the point, the very top is 6400 feet with trails everywhere to enjoy. It was quite crowded, and I felt like I may be coming down with a cold, so I took it all in, got my pics, and headed back down.  There is an adorable gift shop located at the foot of the Mountain that has the National Park merch, and so happy there was because like I had mentioned, all the Visitor Centers were closed. It took about an hour and a half from Bellevue to get there, and another 30 plus minutes to drive to the top. OH I did see a little lamb walk past my car…Amy had a little lamb, it was very storybook like in this Park. Even the fields of flowers with the Mountains backdrop SCREAMED “Sound of Music.” I would have done it had I felt better…but my luck I would have just got dizzy twirling, tripped, and fell down the hill. Seriously, I am the biggest clutz in middle age. YAY for adulthood.

That was all and enough for today, I made it back to my hotel in one piece and happy to be tucked into bed with soup, Sprite, and snacks. I even scored “Dantes Peak” on HBO here, it was so cool to see everything from the movie that I had just walked around in the same town, and seen just days ago.  So I am going to stream more “Twilight” goodness on my laptop tonight because I am coming for you FORKS!!! I can’t wait, talk to y’all tomorrow. Oh, and I work really hard to share with everyone, so please drop a dollar or two in my Paypal to let me know you appreciate this crazy ride, the gas is insanely expensive here! Thanks everyone.

Day 23: Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021

There is something about waking up in your parent’s home, during a visit, that feels so safe and warm.  They cook for you, ask if you need laundry done, cater to your every need…and you wonder, why did you rush so much to leave home?  It’s such a sweet deal, who knew what was waiting for us all in adulthood. As my parents get older, health issues are arising, and it definitely is making me think about what I will do, or where I will be, after the traveling is done.  If I can be here for them to help, I will make it happen.  This trip is already revealing so much that I was blind too…. Quite amazing.

When I woke up this morning I thought about Bay Beach, maybe a Museum, or a lakefront walk.  Somehow what wound up happening was shopping, more shopping, and just logistical errands. Apparently I needed one of these days BADLY.  I thought I had picked up everything I needed for my trip, and yet I keep finding things that would GREATLY help me.  Yes Dad, I got my fire extinguisher and the first aid kit.  I joked with my Dad that I camp for all of 8 days, yet it’s probably what is the most “stuff” in my car. Then I said “I will also be VERY happy for the comfort and safety I have once it does happen because I took these extra steps for it.”

As long as I have known, Emily, my youngest, LOVES “Fazzoli’s” Italian Restaurant.  When we moved from WI to FL, she was crushed to learn there were none in our area of Florida.  As the years rolled by, there would be a couple that popped back up near us in FL, we even drove her to Georgia one birthday JUST so she could have her favorite breadsticks there.  So of course, I needed to introduce Emily’s favorite place to Walter….I was also craving lasagna.  Mom and I dined on fast Italian goodies and chatted about the rest of our day.

As we ate, I noticed a homeless man on the corner, and I asked an employee of the Restaurant if they knew who he was.  He said no, he just started showing up recently. So I made a decision that I wasn’t going to wonder or judge about who was “worthy” or not because that’s not my job. When I worked for a Homeless Ministry, I heard so many stories from the outside of the typical “They need to get a job” or “They are all drug dealers” and honestly it made me feel empty for the soul who was judging and so much more empathy for the homeless person standing in front of me.  Can you imagine how horrible it must be? To lose your home, job, family and friends? “They did it to themselves Amy” MAYBE but WHY do they need you to remind them of that at their lowest of lows? Enough judging, more loving.  You never know if that could be YOU one day, and what empathy you will be CRAVING for from a warm soul who just wants to help you.  I walked out and asked him if I could buy him lunch… I told him anything he wants. I went in, ordered, drink and a cookie too, and walked back out to give it to him.  He said most places won’t allow him to dine in because he is homeless….so I was happy to bring it to him. Nothing will ever bring you more peace than helping a soul in need of kindness in their darkest hour.  And if it was all just a scam? I fed someone. Period.

Mom and I then headed to Kohls, my home planet here in WI, and like we always do, I found a shirt to warm up in that would look cute over my kindness shirt.  Then off to Seroogys for chocolate turtles, Walter drooled at all of the sweets.  He would have really enjoyed Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, just saying.  Then off to Betty’s, Mom’s bestie, for Margaritas, Cheese, and Chocolate Strawberries while we chatted up the afternoon.

In between running, I found time to make sure Walter met “The Others….” What you say Amy? Well since 1984, my Mom has been collecting dolls. She will tell you “WE” were, but honestly it’s mostly hers. I thought it would be fun to make a “Where’s Walter?” picture, have him at a tea party, and show y’all the “Others.”

Constantly putting my hair under a hat, I wasn’t paying much attention to it, but with every video I have done, I could see how much I needed something. The ends of my hair looked like frayed rope, and it was in desperate need of a cut and treatment. A hair cut at “Carolyn’s” in Green Bay for early evening was just what the hair doctor ordered, and I was pleasantly surprised by my hairtician “Morgan.” We talked Disney the entire visit, she cut, she curled….and she was KIND.  As I paid my bill on the way out, I ave he a giant tip and told her to use it for her first trip to Disney World.  She’s offered to freshen me up in the morning so I feel good and pretty for all the people I get to love on tomorrow in Sheboygan- how sweet is that?!? So Morgan, if you’re reading this, you are amazing, you are incredible, and you are going to do AMAZING things with your life!!

See y’all tomorrow in Sheboygan….Walter CANNOT wait!

Thank you for your kindness!!

Day 22: Tuesday, June 22nd, 2021

Another day of getting up to early for my good made me wonder why…and then I realized what time the sun was starting to rise here. Yeah…it’s already starting to get light out in WI that early, with the sun soon to follow. Clearly it’s been messing with my sleep schedule, but I am trying to stay away from sleeping pills as long as I can because they make me feel really sluggish the next day. Not a fan. Great night’s sleep, but you’ll get nothing done the next day. Any suggestions I will gladly take. Anyways, onto the day.

It was my BIRTHDAY today!!! I packed up again, this time I swear making the impossible, possible. I am trying to make ONE bag the “everything I need every day” bag- so that it’s the MAIN bag. Then there are just other “extras” of things that I will eventually need- everything from extra underthings, vitamins, protein shakes, meds, and clothes. Basically Plan A, then B, and so on. It’s a bit stressful just trying to keep it all together, and keep everything straight. Once I was done playing Tetris with my luggage and my car, pretty sure I won that round, Dad had showed up to whisk me away to breakfast.

I have been blessed to spend my birthday with both my parents two years in a row. They have been divorced for over 20 years, but they both still live in WI and thankfully not to far from each other. It was a treat last year, and this year, to see them both on the day they had me. Dad and I nestled into the back porch of the “Scaturo’s” Restaurant in Sturgeon Bay. A thunder storm was rolling through and we enjoyed listening to it, the rain hitting the roof, and we had the patio to ourselves since nobody wanted to dine outside in the rain- it was really cool. Skillets were delicious, and Walter enjoyed sharing mine on this celebratory day.

I hugged my Dad and said my “See you next Summer” and tried not to cry as he drove away and I drove on to Mom’s in Green Bay. From one parent visit to another, Mom greeted me at the front door with her Mom hug. We chatted excitedly, as I grabbed my newly packed luggage, and then we headed inside to see Bob and see how he was doing since his heart attack a couple of months ago (yep this is the family side I went to help in Texas). He looks well, in better spirits, and of course, he met Walter. And he said “Who is he?” Fair warning, if you say this to me, I WILL make you watch the movie with me at some point LOL. Yes, I made Mom and Bob watch it tonight and they LOVED it- and honestly, the Muppets just make me feel better all the time, so I didn’t mind seeing it again so soon.

Mom and I went shopping, picking up for camping items for my trip to Yellowstone, and she is great for helping me boost my supplies to hold me over for a few months. Moms are great! We will go for hours, realize we haven’t eaten anything yet, and wonder why we feel off. SO I got super excited when I realized that I had forgotten something amazing in the area….the pizza of all pizzas, the Happy of all Joes, yes…… I was going to have my beloved Taco Pizza on my Birthday. #Perfectenschlag

Happy Joes was nice and quiet because we ate at like 3 p.m. – and “T” treated us VERY well. She is always working when I am there, and I was VERY happy the Business had survived!! I ordered the Taco Supreme Pizza, no black olives…..and when it came to the table, I was ready to openly weep. And if you don’t have a favorite food like that, get one. Life is too short not to have that “one” food that you think about…and don’t let anyone tell you it’s weird. They are weird. End of story.

She treated me to a birthday sundae AND a Happy Joes sticker for my suitcase of stickers. I made sure to spread the kindness back to “T” and she also asked me for my business card which I am always excited to give out. Great birthday meal, great time with Mom, and Walter was now introduced to the best thing on this planet.

The rest of the day was more shopping, cake at Mom’s house, and then the Muppet movie again. I am exhausted, I can’t wait until what tomorrow brings, thank you ALL for the countless Birthday wishes today – EVERY SINGLE ONE made me smile and feel the kindness and love. THANK YOU for being YOU. See you tomorrow!!

Are Disney Outlets WORTH the Time in Line?

So we all know how incredibly cruddy this last year has been, and it’s obvious that stores needed to go with the flow on policies which meant change. Before the Pandemic, I could run to the Disney Outlets and, if lucky to find a parking spot, peruse the store, see if anything had shown up from the Parks I had my eye on, and head home. It was never “simple” because being a Central Floridian is anything but, but it was simple enough for us. That being said, the post covid policies of the Outlets is a bit hairy, and now having been to both of them in a matter of a couple of weeks, I can say there is zero consistency with the two. Say what Amy? Let me explain.

The Character Warehouse located on Vineland, or “near Disney Springs and the big church,” had people line up before 10 a.m. for the opportunity to give your name for a reservation in line. I was in lineT by 9 a.m., gave my name at 10, sat in the Food Court until I was called a little after 11 a.m.. They text your phone to come and get in the queue outside the Store.  The first bunch of people was around 25-28. So in order for you to get in to see the “new stuff” of the day, you have to be in line at this location probably by 8 a.m. or sooner.

Now, today, I went to their other location at the Outlets located on International Drive. I parked at 8:30 a.m. where I got in line, but this location had TWO lines. One that filled up fast I guess, the one I was in, that was the “first group” to go in.  The second line was the group that had to put their name in for a reservation and were texted when to come back.  It was a bit confusing, but it worked as well.  There was no rhyme or reason to it until around the 11 a.m. mark when the Cast Members started to come out and prep the lines.  By the way, Cast Members at both locations were great and on top of things. Just a bit confusing as I thought it would operate like the other location. What was nice about the first one was that I put my name in, and I could leave the line and walk around or sit at the food court for an hour and not stand in line.  Today I stood in the same spot for over 2 hours. Yes, to shop in an Outlet Store, you can stop shaking your head at me now.

So is it worth it anymore? Depends on your time and what you are hoping to find. If you are looking for something very specific, I don’t think it’s worth it. Probably invest in a Disney Personal Shopper or look to Ebay.  If you have the time to wait, and the patience that you will need with it, then go for it, it’s definitely an experience. But for how long it takes now, if you are here on vacation, choose a non-Park day to enjoy the Outlets so that you aren’t wasting precious Park time.

I have been asked “Is it really that much cheaper?” Yes. Most items seemed to be knocked down anywhere from 50-75% off their original Park price. It’s a great place to grab some cheaper souvenirs for yourself or the friends and family back home.  Clothing especially can be $64.99 marked down to $19.99 – how can you argue with that? You can get three shirts for the price of one in the Parks, and THAT is why they are so popular!

If you have the time for them, check them out, but not worth trading Park time for them. Hope this helps, have a great day!

It also helps me keep my sanity so that I am not running every day to ship items out.  Items must be paid by PAYPAL only (unless we have discussed something else).  Items will be a FIXED price, this will not be bidding, and it will be on a first come, first serve basis. You want the item? First person to email me and agrees to the price and shipping costs gets it- easy peasy! You will have 24 hours to make the payment on said item or it will go back on sale and offered to the second person who asked for it or back online if no others asked about it the first time.

My Love Affair with “A Goofy Movie”

I was at the Memorial Mall in Sheboygan, WI with my Dad and my then 2 year old daughter- it was 1995. We were shopping at one of the Video Stores and came across “A Goofy Movie” which just came out on VHS. My Dad bought it for my family and I was so excited – Goofy had always been my favorite character. And so we watched it, over and over again, and it became a family favorite over the last two decades.  Every song memorized, every line still laughed at.

Walt-Disney-Posters-A-Goofy-Movie-walt-disney-characters-35800038-2400-3209

It would be in 2019 that I would get the next “Goofy Movie” fix when I headed to MegaCon and a young gentleman came as “Powerline.” If you don’t know who that is, it’s the singer in the film that Goofy and his son, Max, wind up seeing in Concert. Honestly, I have danced to “Eye to Eye” many a time when no one is looking. Check out the YouTube videos that people have done of it, they are excellent!

rsz_img_2349_1

Next to the American Adventure located in Epcot in Walt Disney World lies a small alley way where the Celebrities come in and out of for their Concerts….(See Richard Marx). But it’s also used as a training area for new Cast Members earning their ears as “friends” of the Characters. It would be here I found Max one day by chance, and I was so excited because he isn’t one that’s out a lot. It was a good day.

OIPIMG_1431rsz_img_1447rsz_img_1439

Then a friend of my site reached out and told me that she KNEW Kevin Lima. Who is Kevin Lima? Well, he THE Director of “The Goofy Movie”…. In fact, it was his FIRST! He also went on to direct Tarzan (another family favorite and another tie I have to Kevin), 102 Dalmatians and ENCHANTED!!! Who doesn’t love Enchanted?!? I mean he worked with AMY ADAMS!! How COOL is that? Then to make it even cooler, he is married to Brenda Chapman who co-directed Prince of Egypt, Brave, and headed the story of The Lion King. So basically this duo is a Disney dream team come true! …..Kevin also voiced “Lester” from “Lester’s Possum Park.”

rsz_gbrp2416

So during my Midwest travels, I received an amazing package from Mr. Lima. He wrote me a note on “Enchanted” stationary and DREW me a pic of Goofy and Max together…I was dumbstruck!!!! I was so touched by this gift and that he took the time for some nobody like me, it was just so cool.

Goofy and Max were in the Christmas parade this past year at Magic Kingdom, and every time I saw them I thought of the drawing. Thank you to Kevin and my dear friend who connected me to him…I will forever enjoy it.

The Disney Store in Chicago in 2020

My lucky rear end got the chance to visit the Disney Store in Chicago this past August. As many of you know, I have lived near Disney World for the last 9 years. I have a unique pespective, being a FL local as long as I have now, on what you can find of the Disney brand in the Parks VS the Disney Stores. They both have a different look, and both different merch, and I have been blessed to have worked at a Disney store when they were in their hay day (still have my name tag!). But it is always fascinating to me the cool things they sell at the Disney Store vs the Parks. Sometimes it’s Christmas ornaments, kitchen stuff, Jerseys, and even Loungeflys. It goes along the same line as Box Lunch and Hot Topic- some of THE coolest Disney merch can be found at both, so its always worth a look to see what’s on the menu.

rsz_img_9748_1rsz_1img_9763rsz_img_9749rsz_img_9750rsz_img_9751rsz_img_9752rsz_img_9755rsz_img_9756rsz_img_9759rsz_img_9760rsz_img_9761rsz_img_9762rsz_img_9764rsz_img_9765

The Chicago Disney Store is located on 717 N. Michigan Avenue, on the right side if you’re walking away from the Riverwalk area. Now, a word of caution. I was there in August and they some rioting in that area so they boarded up the front of the Store, and then I was just there this past weekend in November and the entire Street was boarded up now. So, they ARE open, but if you are concerned, call ahead. Enjoy the pics from the Store, it’s worth checking out!

A Different and Spooky Look at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

I have taken hundreds of thousands of pictures at Disney World over the past 10 years, so I was pretty excited when I came across this idea of making the normal pics look a bit “spookier.” Some look the same, others feel very different. It’s amazing what color vs greyscale can do to the feeling of a photo- enjoy!
