Day 34: Sunday, July 4th, 2021

Snuggled in one of my favorite hotel rooms ever, I didn’t want to go. I had had such a great day with Amy, sometimes leaving those “high days” is rough when you know you won’t be around familiar folks for a couple of weeks.  The positive? Adventure on a solo level. Nobody but me to count and lean on…and yet scary as hell. And yet…I am ready for it. Huh, who knew?

After my new routine this morning, I headed down to the lobby to check out. A very angry man was pacing in front of the hotel, I could hear and see him while I was loading up my car. I always keep to myself with these situations when I am alone, BUT, what happened next was a bit on the different side. I went in to get my complimentary bottled water, fruit, and cereal for snacks on the road…and the man came into the hotel and started screaming for his money back. I am not talking “irritated” but irrationally annoyed with something the hotel did or didn’t do for him.  Everyone cleared out of the breakfast area, and of course, I was the one at the check-in desk. They had under charged me for the room and had to fix it…I complied even though I was thinking (Hey, your bad, my gain…but karma so I just paid it). BUT he is now screaming at the hotel employee taking care of me, and RIGHT behind me. I looked right at her and said “Are you ok, do you need me to call the Police?” She said “No, but thank you.”  So I paid, and as I walked out, she was calling the police herself.  Scary but I feel I handled it the best that I could.

With that bit of drama, I was on my way in the sunshine on this Independence Day, and enjoying calling friends and singing to my music.  About a 4 hour drive to Sioux Falls, South Dakota from Roseville, MN, I just enjoyed the ride.   I had planned on seeing more as I drove, but my GPS took me a different way then planned and I just went with it LOL. BUT I did pass this strange sideshow of yard ornaments that were an attraction themselves, so I had to turn in and check it out.  IT. WAS. AMAZING!!! Walter and I had SO MUCH FUN!!  It was incredibly windy, so that was annoying, but other than that, it was pretty cool the stuff they had and ALL of it is for sale. Ya hear that Dad? Couldn’t you see having the Aliens sitting all over your yard? LOL

Soon I was in South Dakota, stopped at the Visitors Center for a picture of Walter with the State sign. I LOVE how they have it nice and clear, AND you can drive up to it EASILY to get a pic with it and it’s enough on the shoulder that I felt it was safe. I would LOVE if every State had big signs at each border for pics with you or your family- some are just way to hard to get a pic of.

Checked in early to my hotel and was thrilled I could get in sooner because it was 97 degrees here in Sioux Falls, SD!  I have learned to put all of my stuff away in my room, relax or even take a cat nap, eat something, and then try and head out again to see some of the area before calling it a night.  After my nap, I committed to seeing the actual Falls this town was named after, even if it felt like the surface of the sun. It was SO close by, I would have kicked myself if I hadn’t checked it out. Even with the drought, they still had some Falls going, but normally this mammoth has tons of water flowing.  I was still happy to finally see it, and the only reason I know it’s usually bigger is because I saw the pics of it at the Visitors Center. But hey, it was still cool.

Dinner is a salad, with “Fargo” playing TV which is PERFECT because I will be heading to Fargo next week in North Dakota. AND YES…they have the Wood Chipper on display!! LOL No, seriously, they do. I will share it next week. See you tomorrow, it’s another day of driving to get to Rapid City where I will be nesting it for the week. Happy 4th y’all!

Thank you for your kindness!!

I LOVE sharing the joy of Adventure, and Travel! Every dollar you support me with goes right back into my mission for equipment, gas, and essentials. But most importantly, when you support me financially it tells me you BELIEVE in me and MY VALUE, and that means more to me than ANYTHING! So THANK YOU for YOU!!
