Having lived here since 2011, people assume I have rode it all. Well, if you have been following me since back in the day, you know I am a bit of a “Ride Chicken.” No, I do not lay eggs on Haunted Mansion or cluck at the fireworks, it means I am scared of several rides in the park. As a kid, I HATED heights. I couldn’t stand anything high, and even when my Dad talked my into riding the old Skyway over Magic Kingdom, I kid you not I am sure I had a minor heart attack. All that “air” between me and the ground…too much empty space to cause trouble. So for kicks, I thought I would share with you what I haven’t done yet in a small series, this one being about the rides. I will also then share with you the Resorts, Restaurants, and anything else I can think of. Enjoy!
Let’s start with my favorite Park, Magic Kingdom. I have been on everything in this Park except for one ride that is high in the air. The Rocket one…see I don’t even know the proper name for it because it scares the crud out of me. I just know there is an elevator and it’s next to my beloved TTA and I walk right on past it every time I am in the Kingdom. I have graced Space Mountain ONCE and that was enough- not a fan of being in the dark and not being able to see where I am headed so I can scream appropriately. I have also done Splash Mountain ONCE with my family because my then 10 year old convinced us all that it would be “fun” and “a good time.” My wet hair said otherwise. I also left my voice at the top of that hill, I can’t retrieve it without riding it again. Bummer.
Second Park is Epcot and I can actually say I have rode everything here- even “Mission:Vomit” Platinum edition, I mean Space. Seriously no ride should have barf bags, just saying.
Next Park is Animal Kingdom. So, I remember early on into my FL residency, I was strolling past “Everest”, minding my own business and eating trail mix, when I saw THE scariest image ever. Riders were being WALKED OFF the very top of the mountain climb…ever since that little nugget I have been literally Elsa about it. (Frozen, I have been Frozen). I cannot even imagine what someone would have to do to convince me to not only get out of the train car, but then WALK down from that height. Maybe a hefty Disney gift card? Perhaps they could knock me out and THEN carry me down? I told you, I am a Ride Chicken. Then there is another ride at this Park that has really never interested me that much, and that is “Kali River Rapids.” This one is pure vanity, I don’t like feeling wet all day in the Park. Even if I do it and then head out right after, the chafing alone from the ride to my car is just disastrous. I mean have YOU chafed while in the Parks?? Its crazy painful!! I also heard the ride is super lame and I don’t know, it’s just never been for me.
Last, but not least, Studios, where movies went to die. Yeah, I am still angry about the “Great Movie Ride” – I’ll get over it. So I have rode “Tower of Terror” once which I hated because I had a 5 drop sequence for my first time and I wasn’t a fan of the “Push back up” feeling- the drops are fun though. The one I haven’t done yet…it’s a little ride in the back corner, some band plays on it, it’s in the dark and it goes upside down. See…dark and upside down…I don’t know. I’d say let me ride it after I am drugged or drunk but I fear the aftermath will have mothers shielding their young children from the horror I may bring. “Rock n Rollercoaster” has just been one of those that I have avoided forever…it calls to me in the night, Steven Tyler beckons to try it.
So with all of that said, within this next coming year, I am going to ride them all. I don’t know with who yet or when, I am sure I will do it on a whim or fastpass so I don’t chicken out. Not going to lie, I will probably get sick or cry, probably cry. But hey, I’ll document it for giggles and proof that I slayed the beast. Stay tuned on the FB Page for updates to this story.
