Announced awhile back by Walt Disney World on Twitter, all Disney eyes were on “The Writers Stop” today as THE Marty Sklar appeared for a book signing. Author of his new book “Dream It! Do It- My Half Century creating Disney’s Magic Kingdom” he arrived around 9:00 a.m., as I had just gotten in line with my friend at around 8:45 a.m.
Now I can tell you that I dropped Emily off at school, parked a little after 8:30 and then, as stated, got in line at 8:45 a.m. Walking in, there was no one around. If you didn’t know he was there, you wouldn’t have even caught sight of the event unless you were back in the Streets of America. Studios does have soft openings quite a bit, so I’m thinking the entrance was opened early for people to line up. I had no way of getting there any earlier anyways, but I had no idea it would take so long. We didn’t get into “Writers Stop” until 11:30 a.m. which was shy of a 3 hour wait- and we were there before the Park opened! We had pink wristbands put on which meant we were guaranteed to see him, yellow meant stand by. Before we met him, Disney Management was saying they were going to have to cut the line short, but I am not aware if they did or not.
We were required to buy his book, which was $25, and then around $23 with my AP discount. We bought it outside at the “Newsstand” and then wrote on a post-it note who you wanted it written out too. They did sell water and mist fans during the wait outside, and gave out free samples of the carrot cake cookies, with many other desserts. The Cast Members were AWESOME and both Disney Ambassadors were out chatting it up with us.
**Shout out to Donna and “floridagal” for stopping by in line to say hello and make me feel so special. you rock!! Great to meet you both!!
Besides the wait in the heat, it was truly an amazing experience to have. Nothing like going to meet a Disney Legend in the morning and then heading home to do laundry- got to love living the FL life. I can’t wait to read the book, but it will have to wait until my hubby does- who I had Marty sign it too. If you can catch him tomorrow, I HIGHLY suggest you do it. He is at Downtown Disney tomorrow at 11 a.m. and I would get there extremely early since anyone can attend since it is not in a Park. Good luck and enjoy!
