On our journey to move to our new home in FL, we stayed over night at the Hampton Inn in Macon, GA. As we got into the elevator, there was a large picture of this odd looking monument and it said under it “Kissimmee, FL” which we all clapped with glee because it was just one more sign pointing us in the right direction. We vowed that day we would find it when we moved, and that day had come.
Once with Mom while she was visting, and once again today with Kyra, it is such a cool sight. At 300 Monument Avenue, it marks the start of the Lakefront Park area. It’s funny that I have driven the Historic Downtown Kissimmee area so many times since moving here, and all this time it was nestled behind one of the line of stores.
Dedicated in 1943, it stands 40 feet high. The story behind what it is and WHY it is can be best explained by RoadsideAmeric.com. It is worth a look and fun to find your State on the Monument. I found Wisconsin and Florida, hope you find yours! Enjoy this stop off the beaten Mickey path.
