Fridays with Friends… Meet Maureen Danforth
What is your name and where do you live?
Maureen Danforth, North Kingstown Rhode Island
Where did your love of Walt Disney World come from?
I loved it since the first time I visited in the mid 1980’s. It was just Epcot and Magic Kingdome back then. The Living Seas had just opened. I was amazed at the level of thought and detail that went into everything.
What is your favorite WDW Park Attraction and why?
I love Soarin’ because I have always wished that I could fly.
Would you like to move to FL? When and why?
I would LOVE to move to FL. I would go any time if I could work out all of the logistics. I want to move to FL because the New England winters have just become too harsh for me given that I have a genetic brittle bone disease. Ice and snow have become really dangerous for me now and the frigid weather now causes me a lot of pain in places where I have broken bones over the years (that is a lot of places!).
Who is your favorite Disney Character?
I LOVE Mike Wazowski! For classic characters it is Tink.
What is your favorite food on WDW Property?
Oh my goodness…that is hard. I think I would have to say the cheese soup and pretzel bread at LeCellier.
If you could work for Walt Disney World, what would be your dream job?
I would love to be one of the folks on the dream squad that ran around giving things away during the Year of a Million Dreams.
Do you collect anything Disney, and if so, what?
I like so many things, but I don’t really collect anything. I do have a nice assortment of pocketbooks, jewelry and glassware.
Do you stay on WDW Property, and if so, where?
I do! I love the Dolphin and Swan because Epcot is my favorite park and it is so easy to get there from those hotels. I have stayed at a few WDW resorts and I have to say that my favorite so far has been Port Orleans French Quarter. This year I will be staying at the Polynesian for the first time and I am really excited about that.
What is your favorite WDW Memory?
My husband’s first trip. The whole thing was just really magical. He had wanted to go since he was a kid. He always talked about watching Wonderful World of Disney and Wonderful World of Color on Sunday nights and he always wanted to go and see some of the things they featured. The Haunted Mansion was high on his list of must do items. When we walked into the Magic Kingdom for the first time he was in total awe. He was so excited to finally see the Haunted Mansion in person. At one point he turned to me and said “I had NO IDEA it was ALL THIS!”
If you won a million dollars that could only be used for WDW, what would you do with it?
I think I’d buy DVC points at either yacht/beach club or boardwalk. I’d get enough points to go 4 times a year and then I’d always take friends and family with me, my treat. I would be able to share the magic with so many that way!
Are you involved in any Disney Communities, Groups, or Websites? Which ones?
I am a member at TourGuideMike, Passporter, EasyWDW and The Dis. I also read The Relocated Tourist, All Ears and just about any other Disney site I can find.
Anything else you would like us to know about you?
I am a real history geek and love to travel to historic sites when I am not traveling to WDW. I love to do different types of crafts as well as photography.
