The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights~ 2011

One of the highly anticipated things to see on the Petermann family wish list was the lights. We had seen them in 2005 as a family, and I was fortunate enough to see them in 2010 when on a scouting FL trip.  Not making the Cast Member preview, as we were way to excited to see the Castle lit up for the first time that same night, we were overjoyed to make the official first one of the season yesterday, November 10th, 2011.

We arrived at 5:30 p.m. after Craig got off work and the place was already packed. We got to the Streets of America and planted a spot in the middle of the street so we could see everything around us.  Our good friends, the Aiken family, along with Ken and Anthony, were up front by the switch which they flip to turn them on. Goofy and Mickey came out, picked a child from the audience, and she helped them turn it on.  After a little show, they came on and it was BEAUTIFUL!!! If you have never seen these before, they are so worth the time and effort to come and see them. At times they also dance, so it is quite the show to see! The snow is by far the coolest part, and it is the ONLY snow I want to see in FL !!

We walked around, and down the side street to see all of the hidden Mickeys in the light displays, along with the search for the black cat. Each year, the Imagineers hide a black cat in the lights, and you have to go and find it. Basically the ultimate hidden Mickey, sort of speak. It was way too busy to really look for it, so we decided to find our friends instead and hang out. We took lots of pictures, played with the Aiken children, chatted with Bill, Korie, Ken, and Anthony and of course, Korie’s mom too! It was a brilliant evening of just hanging out, enjoying the cool air, and being with good friends. It was the greatest way to see them, and we will never forgot seeing them for the first time as FL Residents. So to all of you, an early and Merry Christmas!

  • I love that!!! The lights are amazing – we saw them again last december – the first time we saw them was in 2001 – when it included walking through back lot when they had all the houses still there and they gave you 3d glasses to make it twinkle even more!!!. This past december it was cold enough for real snow down there – in the 30’s at night!!!! But still by far the most magical thing to put you in the christmas spirit!!!

  • Seeing the lights makes my Christmas spirit bubble over. It’s the moment I say ahh yes. Tis the season.
Won’t be seeing them this year for the first time in many many years because we “sacrificed” our Christmas trip to go to Disneyland in California. I regret it, not that Disneyland isn’t fabulous, but because it isn’t my World.
