Not only has it been a year since we have started our blog, but it’s also day 100 until we move to Florida- quite the day here!! I can’t believe it has been a year already- join me as we reflect on what a year it has been and how we are looking to the future.
It Starts With a Spark
February 23rd, 2010. Carl and I, giddy as school children, crowded around the home PC as we thought of how we were going to start a blog. My amazing hubby had thought up the name “The Relocated Tourist” so all we needed to do is find the right place to for our blog. We really liked wordpress and felt their rates were reasonable to host it. We paid the fees, and worked on the site, tweaking it all that evening. Because of our love of “UP”, we would call ourselves Carl and Ellie so that we could enjoy the blog without feeling the wrath of work knowing we were planning to move, and keeping the pen names to give our life privacy. They were born, along with Jessie and Belle, our daughters.
February 24th, 2010. The blog went live, and I had to leave for my Christian Women’s Retreat for the weekend. I brought my lap top with to see if anyone would read it, and then it hit me. Why not make a fan page right away on FB so that we could direct traffic to the blog? The fan page was born and we were pretty excited. Carl watched it all weekend, while I was away, trying to check in myself. We felt so proud that we were doing this as not only a couple, but as a family. From there… it just grew.
It has been a journey, and thankfully, it still continues. I know I have personally learned a lot about blogging, writing, and what subjects speak to people and what touches the heart. The blog has become a way for our family to talk about our Disney vacations, showcase the kid’s artwork, display our favorite photos, and most importantly, talk about our upcoming move to Florida. We always wondered if we would have enough to talk about, would we blog every day, would it be interesting to read? We did find enough to write and chat about, to share our knowledge of Disney with you, and we found we were open to let you into our personal lives on levels we never thought we could.
Opening up can be a scary venture, as you never know what to expect. But we have had nothing but positive comments on the blog, in email, and on Facebook. Nothing warms our hearts then when someone contacts us to let us know what a great job we are doing, that we are brave to be following our dreams, or the kind that wish they were doing what we are. Let me tell you, we do it for EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU who cannot live down in FL but dream of it as well. We want you to live through us… and that is why we will be continuing the blog once we reach Florida. We want to help those of you who are planning on relocating to FL, along with sharing our personal experiences of living there.
I have learned to celebrate the little things in life just as much as the large ones. The first day we put up the blog, the first comment, the first 1,000 views, and now we have come to our 100th day and our year Birthday. The kids and I made the chain- 100 pieces for each day. The kids will take turns taking one down each day before school and the events of the day. We have done this for vacations, but this is so much more exciting because the last one left will mean our dreams are about to come true. So after thousands of views, over 500 comments, over 3,000 Facebook friends, and over 1800 fans, we are truly thankful and blessed to have each one of you in our lives as we move forward over the next 100 days.
We have booked our room for June, and are excited with our plans of getting down there first to look around. As you may have known, I have been getting rid of things on Ebay and I am so appreciative for those of you who have bid. We have decided we will be liquidating many Disney Collectibles, such as Disney Lithographs, Snowglobes, Plates, etc… look for those sometime in March. We are moving forward with each passing day and as our excitement grows, we hope yours does as well. Stay tuned- it keeps getting better!
I LOVE sharing the joy of Disney, Adventure, and Travel! Every dollar you support me with goes right back into my brand for equipment, gas, and essentials. But most importantly, when you support me financially it tells me you BELIEVE in me, and that means more to me than ANYTHING! So THANK YOU for YOU!!
