Por Favor Mantengase Alejado De Las Puertas

If you have heard these famous words, you know exactly what I am talking about today.  If you are new to Walt Disney World, or just not as obsessed as me, you would hear this announcement after boarding Disney’s famous Monorail.  Since 1991 when I rode it for the first time, I have been hooked on this wonderful Disney transportation.  So climb aboard, hold on tight, and enjoy reading  about our awesome experiences with the Monorail.

In May of 2005, we had a vacation that was sort of out of sorts. What I mean by that, is that the “dream” vacation we had planned just didn’t wind up being so.  Instead of certain park days we had planned, we had to opt out to find other things to do.  Since we hadn’t expected the unexpected, we didn’t have a list of really anything extra to do.  So we winged it, and came across an empty Monorail Station one sunny Spring afternoon.  The Station was the one located at the TTC, and we got lucky with the Monorail heading to Epcot. With no one around, we got to talking to with the Monorail drivers who were waiting for the next train.  One asked if we had ever ridden in the front, and with glee we all got excited because we were unaware you could!  As the Monorail pulled up, the four of us stepped into the front and here are the pictures we took of our amazing journey.

After we rode to Epcot, we decided to ride the Monorail back to the Magic Kingdom in one of the regular cars. Since it was during Park hours, it was pretty much empty, so we got an entire car to ourselves.  We had so much fun taking pictures of the girls talking, playing, and just messing around in their private Monorail car.

Fast forward to June 2009, and we would again luck out and get first place in the line for the Monorail. Once it had arrived, and we could see the people who were in the front were getting out, we asked right away and got in!  So we again rode the Monorail, this time getting to experience around the Seven Seas Lagoon.  It… was… amazing!!! We walked away with Monorail Driver Licenses as a keepsake of our wonderful adventure.

Our love of the monorail would extend to clothing, hats, and of course, the Monorail itself! We bought the red-lined Monorail for around the bottom of our Christmas tree, adding the Castle, Contemporary Hotel and Spaceship Earth later on.  Yes, these WILL be moving with us to Florida! We hope to add more pieces eventually, but buying them off Ebay can get VERY costly! I am a bit bummed they don’t carry the accessories, like they used to, anymore.

Thank you so much for joining us on this ride, and we hope to hear about your Monorail stories as well. Leave them on our fan page on Facebook or in the comments section below.

  1. Bummer they don’t let you ride up front anymore! I’m glad we had the opportunity on our last trip in 2008. It’s still worth it for a fun ride. I love coming into the Contemporary and seeing the lobby open up around us!

  2. We were lucky enough on our December 2007 trip to ride up front on the TTC-Epcot run and Ben and Catie were thrilled. They loved getting the Monorail license too. 🙂

Hopefully Disney will one day allow for front riders again.

  3. I look at the Monorail models all the time and i want to get them, but we dont have the space to display them and so I feel it would be a waste since they will end up staying in the box instead of being displayed.

  4. Monorail licenses – now a collector’s item. I’ve always loved the monorail and hope to ride the Epcot rail one day just for the fun of it!
