Recently I was waiting for my daughter’s concert to begin, and it crossed my mind “Too bad there isn’t a pre-show.” So for tonight’s topic, we are addressing the pre-shows that keep us distracted from our sore feet and keep us entertained at the WDW attractions.
Let’s start with our favorite… “Muppet Vision THREEE-DEEEE,” located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios across from “Pizza Planet.” We love this pre-show because it is seriously a show in itself. Who doesn’t love Gonzo, Kermit, Rizzo as Mickey Mouse, and Sam Eagle? The music and slapstick humor will tickle your rib cage. And if you are like us, you will be humming or singing “By The Light…of the Silvery Moon…not the Sun, but the Moon” around the house many months after your trip has ended.
Another favorite of ours has long since retired and does have a replacement, just not as good…and that’s “Honey I Shrunk the Audience,” pre-show located at Epcot above the “Journey into Imagination” Pavilion. Kodak has sponsored both pre-shows, but the first one was a real heart breaker. We would tear up to all of the pictures while listening to Cyndi Lauper’s song “True Colors.” You can find this original pre-show today on You Tube, we highly suggest you take a look when you have the chance.
On the humorous side of pre-shows, nothing can beat “Ellen’s Energy Adventure,” located at Epcot inside the “Universe of Energy” Pavilion. Before Ellen was ever a daytime talk show host, she had her own show called “Ellen.” During this time period is when Disney asked Ellen to record this show and ride along with Jamie Lee Curtis and Bill Nye the Science Guy. The pre-show follows a dream of Ellen’s in which she is playing on the game show “Jeopardy” but knows nothing on the topic of energy. It sets up the ride beautifully, and is incredibly funny. The pre-show and ride itself are a bit lengthy, but this is a great one to spend time in when you need a break from the FL sun.
Another funny one is “Test Track.” As you head into a dark room where both doors shut close, you are led to believe that you are being monitored to be the next Test Dummy Team for their facility. You are shown which tests you will be taking, and always the ever funny one that the Tech herself picks for you.
A brand new one we experienced this past trip was the pre-show for “Mission: Space.” We really enjoyed this because it just got your heart pumping, it recruited us to be a part of the mission, and it laid it out for us that this ride was going to be intense. Yes, we braved the extreme side, and lived to tell the tale.
Not only are these pre-shows great to pass the time, but they are informative for those who just aren’t sure this ride is for them. Most show what type of vehicle you will be riding in, what kind of atmosphere you will be experiencing, height requirements, and what health issues should be taken seriously. We also feel that the visuals are so important for our friends who don’t speak English, but can clearly see what is being shown on the pre-show screen.
So next time you are at one of the many Walt Disney World pre-shows- stand back, relax, and enjoy it!
