“I’m Walking Right Down The Middle Of Main Street USA”

“When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are…anything your heart desires can come to you.” This song resonates in my heart the minute I walk into my favorite Disney Park… The Magic Kingdom.

No matter how many times I have been there, I still get choked up getting off the monorail. The feeling builds as I walk down the walkway, my daughter’s hand in mine…rounding the bend, through the gate, and then I hear “Welcome, welcome, welcome.” The show starts in front of the Train Station, and as the Cast Members sing and the train pulls in with all of my Disney friends.. they begin the countdown. This is where I lose it every time. The countdown can barely get out, I choke up every time. The confetti flies, and we are on our way in.

Did you ever think about how incredibly cool it is that we can’t see the park AT ALL until you walk in? I realize from the monorail you can get a small glimpse, but it’s such an awesome experience to walk under the train station, walk around the courtyard, and there before you is the most beautiful sight in the world, “Cinderellas Castle.”

Before you even get up close and personal to the Castle, Main Street U.S.A. itself is meant to be explored. As the park opens, the Shop Vendors come out and greet you as you walk down the middle of Main Street. I would compare it to walking the red carpet..you are in the most magical place on earth, and all of these wonderful people want to greet and meet you. You even get the paparazzi…well the Photopass people aren’t quite that, but you get what I mean.

Did you know that the Magic Kingdom has the most rides than any other Disney park? Just for that alone I would love it, but it’s so much more. Where can you ride a Pirate ship in the air and on the high seas? Where else can you live out your childhood stories with Winnie-the-Pooh and Snow White? I can’t begin to explain the butterflies in my stomach I feel when I approach the “Haunted Mansion”…not because I’m scared, but because I get so excited to ride it! So many rides, so many memories.

Besides the incredible rides, let’s talk food. We can all agree…we love to eat at the Magic Kingdom. Whether it be at Cosmic Ray’s or Pecos Bills, we find something that tickles our taste buds. But one stands out more than the rest…the infamous Dole Whip. We were told on ‘Keys to the Kingdom’ tour that there are only 4 other Dole Whip Stands in the world- which makes this one at MK so special. No trip would be made without it! Next time you are in Adventure Land, stop by the stand and try one out.

But the best thing about this park, the thing that stands out in my mind when I think of it, is the fireworks show called “Wishes.” I challenge anyone to watch it and not cry. What is it? It’s the best fireworks show known to the Disney fan, well to me anyways. Nothing makes me more giddy then getting my spot, seeing the lights go down in the park, and hearing the sweet voice of Jiminy Cricket. If you have never seen the show, make time for it, you won’t regret it.

The rides, the food, the sights, even the sounds…I can never get enough of this magical place. I would love to hear from all of you-what is your FAVORITE thing about The Magic Kingdom? Sound off here or on our fan page on Facebook. Have a magical day!

  • I saw Wishes for the first time over a year ago the night of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. I cried. It was so perfectly timed with the music, and sentimental. It’s so beautiful.

  • Geez, just one thing?? I love riding those fantasyland rides and being thrown right into the middle of my favorite disney classics.
But i have to admit watching wishes for the first time with my 5 year old, and seeing her almost jump out of her daddy’s arms as Tinkerbell flew down from the castle will always be my absolute favorite Magic Kingdom moment.
